Join us November 14 at 1:00 PM at QED Astoria (27-16 23rd Avenue) to discuss Nella Larsen’s groundbreaking 1929 novel Passing. The book is available from The Astoria Bookshop (31-29 31st Street).
Please note that we are meeting on Sunday this month, rather than our usual Saturday.
Support independent Astoria!
QED Astoria is a woman-owned event space with a vibrant programming schedule that includes comedy shows, classes, interest groups, and also hosts private events. If the weather is too cold or wet for us to use QED’s back garden, we will move inside, and in that case, proof of vaccination will be required. No outside food or beverage are permitted at QED. Please plan to make a food, beverage, or gift shop purchase during your visit to support the venue.
The Astoria Bookshop is a woman-owned independent bookstore which hosts a wide variety of author events and supports a number of book clubs. The shop stocks our selections and information about our meetings is always available there.
Content advisory: The novel was written in 1929 and uses racial and social descriptors that were in common usage at that time. Some of those terms are no longer considered to be polite and affirming. For more information on this phenomenon, I can point you toward John McWhorter’s essay The Euphemism Treadmill.
